Edgar Gasca chose the University of Illinois Springfield because he wanted to “experience a close-knit community” when entering college. On campus, he is part of the Necessary Steps Mentoring Program for first-generation students, the Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity, the Baile Monarcas and University Bible Fellowship. He says what he most likes about UIS is the great things happening at the Diversity Center and the people that he has met on campus. Following graduation from UIS, he plans to attend graduate school to earn his master’s degree in mental health counseling.
